Why Self-Myofascial Release

In today’s tech-driven world, both technology and emotional states contribute significantly to fascial adhesions and chronic pain. Embodied cognition, the idea that the body and mind are deeply interconnected, explains how our physical posture can reflect and reinforce emotional states. For example, the feeling of overwhelm often causes the shoulders to rise toward the neck, creating tension. This physical response, in turn, reinforces the emotional state of overwhelm, resulting in tight shoulders and neck pain.Technology also reshapes how we hold our bodies. Hours spent looking down at screens lead to “tech neck,” a forward head posture that strains the neck, shoulders, and upper back. Over time, this posture creates chronic tension and fascial adhesions, perpetuating stress and discomfort.

A regular self-myofascial release practice not only alleviates these physical restrictions but also fosters an increased sense of interoception—the awareness of internal body sensations. Clients become more attuned to chronic holding patterns that contribute to pain and overall dis-ease. This heightened awareness empowers individuals to recognize and address the root causes of their tension, preventing the accumulation of stress and promoting a sense of ease and well-being.
